How to Use for Japa

1. Begin with the first bead beside the guru bead.
2. Hold the mala using your thumb and middle finger.
3. Traditionally, the index finger is kept away from the beads.
4. Repeat your mantra once per bead.
5. Continue until you reach the guru bead.
6. Do not cross over the guru bead. Turn the mala around and continue in the opposite direction.

Beginners may start with 11, 27 or 54 repetitions and gradually build towards 108.
